Discussing Digestive Disorders

Digestive Blog is designed to bring together doctors and individuals to discuss digestive issues that affect us in everyday life. Our discussions will encompass how digestion relates to disorders like Reflux or GERD, Allergies, Asthma, Osteoporosis, Cancer, Gastritis, Diabetes, Gastritis and overall health and longevity. We appreciate your input and ask that your input be related to the issues described above. We will not allow profanity of any type on Digestive Blog, or any comments that would harm or debase another individual.

Dysbiosis of the gut

April 2015

Candida (yeast), H. pylori, Mitochondrial Dysfunction Dysbiosis, is a condition that results when the natural flora of the gut are thrown out of balance, by antibiotics, Proton Pump Inhibitors, Antihistamines, Mucus reducing medications, Maldigestion, Hypochlorhydria and Achlorhydria. Dysbiosis occurs, when the normal flora balance is disturbed and the beneficial microorganisms become overgrown, by harmful microorganisms, including bacteria, yeasts, fungi, parasites and other pathogens. The use of antibiotics to eradicate the H. pylori bacteria, can lead to the onset of Candida. Candida and the H. pylori bacteria often live together. Most people, do not realize that Candida can cause the same symptoms, or similar symptoms, as the H. pylori infection. Oral Candida organisms in the mouth, acts as reservoir for the H. pylori bacteria. Antibiotic therapy, for H. pylori will eliminate the bacteria in the gut, but the H. pylori bacteria held in the Candida organisms, of the mouth, can cause the reoccurrence, of the H. pylori infection, to return weeks, or months later. When testing a patient for the H. pylori bacteria, testing for Candida overgrowth would be well advised. Dysbiosis of the gut, can cause Mitochondrial dysfunction. This condition, is not uncommon in children, as well as adults. Mitochondrial are often called the powerhouse cells. They generate the energy that our cells need to do their jobs. Mitochondrial cells generate chemical energy called adenosine triphosphate, or ATP. Mitochondrial dysfunction in children, is categorized by, constrained eye movements, cognitive delays, hearing loss, feeding and difficulty speaking, developmental delays, confusion, swallowing difficulties and increased risks of infection. In older adults, the symptoms may include difficulty speaking, dementia, muscle weakness, cognitive impairment, heart abnormalities, loss of coordination, dementia, etc. Decreased chemical reaction, from the Mitochondrial cells, will decrease the conversion of food and absorption of oxygen necessary to create cellular energy. Each of these disorders, are affected by the digestives systems inability to properly breakdown, sterilize and convert the nutrients consumed. Dysbiosis will result in recurrent GI infections. Chronic diarrhea and/or constipation, Inflammatory bowel, gas, bloating, abdominal pain, fatigue, low energy, flatulence, nausea, etc. The use of Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs), antibiotic, antihistamines will cause the stomach''s acid producing cells (parietal cells), to stop producing strong enough hydrochloric acid (Hypochlorhydria and Achlorhydria). Sufficiently strong hydrochloric acid is absolutely necessary, to promote good sterilization and conversion of nutrients consumed. The use of Probiotics will restore the beneficial flora to the digestive tract, after the use of PPIs, Antibiotics and other H2 antagonist. However, the reoccurrence of H. pylori, Candida and other bacterial infections is highly likely, if Hypochlorhydria and Achlorhydria is still present. In addition, nutrients consumed will not be broken down, sterilized and converted. Many proteins are allergens and will cause allergies, if they are not broken down and sterilized, by the action of the peptic enzymes. A Heidelberg pH diagnostic test, will allow the doctor to make a complete and accurate assessment, of your digestive function. With the information received, from the test, the doctor will prescribe a natural medication that will bring your digestive process back into balance. Proper pH balance, in the digestive process, will always keep you immune system operating at its optimum level, and prevent the influx of bacteria and other pathogens.
